MRC holland

The importance of copy numbers in genetic diagnostics and research

MRC Holland has been paving the way to copy number confidence for over a decade. As the inventors and manufacturers of MLPA®, digitalMLPA™ and a Melt Assay for newborn screening, we supply the world with simple solutions to genetic inquiries.
MRC Holland develops tools for the detection of DNA copy numbers and
methylation patterns associated with disease. Our MLPA® technique is the gold standard in this field, and is used around the world to study hereditary disorders and tumours.
At MRC Holland, we believe that reliable genetic analysis should be available to everyone. Our mission is to provide the world with easy-to-use, high-quality and affordable genetic tools for diagnostic and research purposes.
We produce genetic tests for a wide variety of genes and applications. We make tests for highly prevalent disorders, but also for extremely rare ones. We do this because we believe that genetic tools should be available regardless of a disorder’s prevalence. As part of our commitment to keep genetic tests affordable, we offer products for rare disorders at the same price as our other products.
To have true impact, we operate in close collaboration with scientists around the world to develop new products and to improve existing ones. Results obtained with our products have been  described in thousands of scientific publications.
As a successful, growing biotechnology company located in Amsterdam-de Baarsjes, we offer a young, dynamic, and multi-national working environment. If you are passionate about providing the world with simple and affordable solutions to detect genetic aberrations, and enjoy a vibrant, family-friendly work environment: come join our team!
We take our social responsibilities seriously. A substantial part of our profit is invested in scientific (medical) research and spent on education and community projects in developing countries by the MRC Holland Foundation.

medstone

Your career at Medstone: building artificial intelligence solutions for healthcare and research.

Reading and analysing scientific studies is an important part of your work. Whether you’re in your academic career, or (thinking of) pursuing a career as a researcher, pharmacist or doctor. At Medstone, we believe in the power of independent, scientific data. Which is why we’ve developed an algorithm that can automatically analyse complex scientific articles, and combine the results of multiple studies to give a complete overview of a drug or disease. Our algorithm combines several AI techniques (e.g. Named Entity Recognition and Semantic Dependency Parsing), and is used by medical doctors and pharmacists to make medical decisions, as well as by researchers in their research on personalised medicine.

Our team includes both experienced pharmacists and young researchers, and together we work on improving healthcare. Curious how we do this with the help of artificial intelligence? Join us during one of the online sessions at the online Amsterdam UMC career event!

Making Hospital Data Usable

CT cue

CTcue is a small flexible firm, rapidly growing in customers and content. Our goal is to make hospital data accessible and usable. Our main product is a search engine application for the Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.

We have three engineering teams, Artificial Intelligence, Data warehousing and Software Development, and a team of medical data scientists. All of us are focused on bringing hospital data to life. There are huge challenges in these areas because patient data has vast numbers, is mostly unstructured and there is a big demand for insight.

  1. Artificial Intelligence. The main mission of the AI team is to extract medical concepts such as diagnoses, medication, and measurements from the electronic health records and present them structured to the users. Next to that the team creates solutions for the search application to help users do their work more efficiently.
  2. Data Warehousing. Data should be made available, standardised and easy usable. But also, it needs to be accurate, timely and complete. Every EHR system is different from the next. Combine that with billions of records and you can see the challenge we are facing.
  3. Search Application. Every Business Intelligence department can retrieve data from the EHR databases and data warehouses. But letting nurses, doctors and PhD students increase their efficiency and the speed with which they do research is a completely different field. We have built a search application that is usable not just by expert data managers, but by the people that actually need the data: the care providers and researchers.
  4. The same questions are being asked in hospitals all over the Netherlands but in isolation. Connecting with each other will increase the speed of research, increase the number of participants per study and thus the robustness of the research. Sharing knowledge and content between hospitals is key to patient value. Image what it means to the quality of healthcare when we succeed! Multicentre, distributed analyses are within reach. We achieve this while still adhering to laws and guidelines like the GDPR (AVG).

Bringing this all together, you can see CTcue is a small fish in this big ocean, but one with enormous impact and motivation to help improve healthcare.
